For Linux a tar.gz archive with binaries for FIFE and the stable Unknown Horizons release each for 32bit- and 64bit-architecture.
Installation instructions for Windows
If you have downloaded the install package, just run the setup. Select Python and OpenAL if these two programs are not installed on your PC. Python is essential. If you want to hear sound (recommended), you also have to install OpenAL.
Please keep in mind, that the OpenAL-installer is included however to install Python via the Unknown Horizons installer, an internet connection is required.
Start Unknown Horizons
To run Unknown Horizons, double click on the desktop icon or click the entry in the start menu. If you want to run Unknown Horizons directly, double click on "run_uh.py" in your installation directory or load this file with the python console.
Installation instructions for Linux
Check this page for instructions for your distribution. If there isn't one, download the appropriate generic package for your machine from the list above and unpack it with a programm like Ark or use a terminal with the following command (x86-64 users should change x86 to x86_64):
tar xvfz uh_2009.2_linux_x86_python2.5.tar.gz
Start Unknown Horizons
Start a terminal and change to the Unknwon Horizons directory you just extracted with:
cd ./unknown-horizons
and start the game with:
./run_uh.py
