Welcome to Unknown Horizons
New Graphics and FIFE updates
Hey everyone,
it's time for a short status update from our side.
Google Summer of Code
First a round of congratulations to our successful Google Summer of Code students Kiryx and vdaras! They easily passed the midterm evalution. Cheers guys, we are looking forward to the second half of GSoC!
Kiryx is busy working on our combat AI, ensuring that you have something to fight against in singleplayer mode. A really tricky task.
vdaras is working on the FIFE side of things, he has integrated the UI framework librocket as alternative to pychan, as well as fixed a lot of things in guichan/pychan. This will allow us to be a lot more flexible in our UI design in the future.
FIFE Updates
Our friends from FIFE (our game engine) merged a highly anticipated branch, providing a lot of features we have been looking forward to for a long while. Some of the new features:
- Better pathfinding, also for very big objects
- Rotations are now easier to use
- Fog of war
- Memory consumption improvements
- and much more
Cheers for your great work guys!
The transition for Unknown Horizons to use the new changes is ongoing, but will take some time as a lot of things have to be changed to fully use the new features. Stay tuned for more on this topic!
